  My native city of Orocovis, Puerto Rico I left the island when I was 12 years old, and moved to NYC (The Bronx area), where I have many great memories. One of these is artist singer "La India" who captivated me with her soprano voice and her single "Dancing on the Fire" (1988 freestyle song), which after all of those years I still listen to. She is my favorite singer of all times, who I'm proud that she is a latino, strong woman, and a beutiful soul.
After living in NYC for 8 years I moved to Grand Rapids, MI. (a huge change, family reasons). There I explored different carreers including; interior designing, nursing and most recently acquired a degree in Psychology/Special Education. I also married and divorced and from this relationship have three beautiful children. And not to forget my pricious cat "Princess"
Honest is how I describe myself. Why be anything else, but honest. It is the key to winning someone's heart, the method of keeping their heart beating and in love, the way to success in the relationship, and the cage, so that love of yours won't fly away, So be nothing else but Honest.

Besides writing short stories I also write poetry which I find it more challenging than short stories, since my poems comes from the heart and I have to feel each word expressed within the poem. Hope you enjoy this one, we all been there at one time or another.

Para Mi Amigo Esteban Figueroa Recuerdos De Mi Ninez by Arnaldo Melendez Prendo la cafetera y al oler el aroma del cafe, viejos recuerdos invaden mi mente. Recuerdos nostalgicos de mi ninez en Puerto Rico. Mi isla del encanto, Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando solia caminar descalzo y mojaba mis pies en los pozos creados por la lluvia. Aquellas lluvias placenteras del la primavera. Solia correr debajo de ellas y ala misma vez daba vueltas mojando por completo mi pequeno cuerpo. Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando me sentaba en la cima de la montana y mientras comia una deliciosa guayaba, admiraba la belleza de la vegetacion en los valles verdosazos. Aquellos valles hermosos donde los caballos y vacas diariamente se alimentaban. Mi isla del encanto, Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando jugaba al escondite con mis hernanos e amigos. Y yo, siempre el ultimo de encontrar, porque mis sitios los conocia yo mas que nadie. Aquellos escondites un poco dificiles de imaginar, como cuando me subia al arbol de china y me chupaba una china mientras me buscaban, Jajaja... Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando acostumbraba ir alas quebradas y en la piedra mas alta me sentaba. Y desde alli, admiraba los diferentes colores de los pececitos tropicales. Aquellos pececitos, multicolores que con muchas fuerza navegaban contra la corriente de la cascada. Mi isla del encanto, Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando en los sabados ibamos aver las peleas de gallos y durabamos el dia entero en la gallera. Me buscaba el dinero facil, pelando las plumas de aquellos gallos, que inafortunadamente perdieron sus vidas mientras defendian su honor. Aquellos pobres gallos, que alguna vez con su cantar melancolico fueron el despertar para muchos campesinos. Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando en los domingos nos ibamos de cabalgata. Visitando barrio por barrio de la isla. Y en cada mercado soliamos para y jugar billar. Y comiamos todo tipo de comidas tipicas, como quellos rellenos de papa, y las alcapurrias que te dejaban chupandote los dedos. Aquello si que era rico, las empanadillas de carne, las longanizas y que no se me olvide la cola champagne, que delicia... Mi isla del encanto, Que lindos recuerdos... Cuando al final del dia, durante la noche, nos reuniamos todos, en casa de la abuela y soliamos contar chistes e historias flokloricas. A mi se me paraban los pelos y despues no queria ir a la cama. Aquellas si que eran historias. Historias llenas de suspenso y terror. Pero lo mejor era el cafecito que la abuela nos hacia, con leche, calentito y endulzado. Ummm... Oh, eso me recuerda, mi cafe, ya estara frio. Jajaja... Que lindos recuerdos... los de nuestra ninez. |
