personal messageSunset When the sun was about to set, twas a soft velvet night neath. It came over so quickly I could see it coming at a distance.. It was like a wolf in sheeps clothing disguised but I knew what lied on the belly's underside. Love is like that sunset. Warm and glowing ,exuberant and powerful I know that it comes and it goes . Nite and day ,day and nite. Feelings remain though in the core of your being. Those feelings are like the sun's rays. Lifting you into the light and as dawn overcomes and the truth is revealed , those feelings turn so emotionless leaving you empty and in a dreary mess. You believe it to be a dream! Wake up say the stars. The rainbow lies ahead. Wake up says the moon don't be fooled by its shadowy bed. Lights out says the Sun! Life goes on as the sun rises and sets.

href="http://www.worldaid sday.org">www.worldaid sday.org - Respect & Protect Im here for networking and meeting new and old friends. I am a Social Worker Supervisor at a local hospital in the South Bronx living here for over twenty years. Born and raised in the burbs but came to the city looking for new challenges. I have been in the field of Social work for twenty years helping the underprivileged, underserved and the disenfranchised. I am a advocate for change. I believe that people have the potential to change given the right support, guidance, and knowledge. On that note, I want to tell you that New York City's rate of HIV infection is about three times the national rate, according to estimates released Wednesday by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. the Department of Health estimates that 72 of every 100,000 New Yorkers -- a total of 4,800 individuals -- contracted HIV in 2006, more than triple the national rate of 23 per 100,000. What is the Bronxwide HIV Testing Initiative? The Bronx has a far higher death rate from AIDS than any other borough. Efforts are being made to get every Bronxite tested and make testing routine care. Routine would mean if you came into the emergency room for asthma or a broken leg, we will test you for H.I.V., if you are willing. While Manhattan has long been the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic in New York, with the highest incidence of both AIDS and H.I.V., the virus that causes it, the Bronx, with its poorer population, has far more deaths from the disease. Public health officials attribute this to people not getting tested until it is too late to treat the virus effectively, thus turning a disease that can now be managed with medication into a death sentence. The goal of the Bronx-wide HIV Testing Initiative is to increase HIV testing, so that every Bronx resident learns his or her HIV status and has access to quality care and prevention services. GOAL 1: Test every Bronx resident between the ages of 18-64 for HIV who has never been tested. GOAL 2: Identify undiagnosed HIV-positive persons in the Bronx and link them to care. Who is being tested? All adults ages 18-64 who have never been tested or who has not been tested in the last 12 months and Persons who have ongoing risk. They should be tested at least annually. Who is doing the testing? Community health clinics, hospitals, community based organizations, NYC Department of Health clinics STD and Tuberculosis and jails. Who is organizing the Initiative? The New York City Department of Health has teamed up with community-based organizations, hospitals, and community health clinics in the Bronx to carry out this initiative. Why is the initiative beginning in the Bronx? The Bronx is known for having great collaborative relationships between community organizations and medical providers. The Bronx has the opportunity to lead the city in the fight against HIV/AIDS by being the first borough to have all residents tested. This will set a model not only for the city but for the whole country.” I think of it as the Bronx being first to know, a community taking the lead in responding to the crisis. Indeed, the rate of AIDS cases is highest in Manhattan, at 82 per 100,000 people, compared with 75 in the Bronx, 46 in Brooklyn, 26 in Queens and 16 on Staten Island, according to state health statistics compiled last year. But the rate of deaths from AIDS is highest in the Bronx, at 37 per 100,000 residents, compared with 21 for Manhattan, 19 for Brooklyn, 8 for Staten Island and 6 for Queens. How can you get involved? Get tested To find out where you can get tested, go to your local hospital or call 311 for help locating the site closest to you. Remember to tell your friends and family to get tested too! Remember these important ways you can prevent HIV transmission: Practice your ABCs when it comes to sex: A -Abstain-don't just do it. Be sure you are ready to deal with the responsibilities that come along with having sex. B- Be Faithful (if you have sex)if you can't then know the risks and the consequences. Please if you know that your positive take extra precautions, don't put your partner at risk. C- Condoms- if you are going to have sex, be sure to use a condom every single time. Never share needles if you inject drugs. Use a new, sterile needle and works every time. What's new here is that we are implementing testing on a larger level. The Bronx has 1.3 million people. It's bigger than most cities, bigger than Boston, bigger than Washington. We're talking about a significant urban population. City officials estimate that 40 percent of the 830,000 people ages 18 to 64 in the Bronx have been tested for H.I.V. in the past year. Half of the remainder, about 250,000 people, have never been tested, and the goal is to test them first. Tests would be given at 40 designated sites, including clinics, community centers, churches and emergency rooms. The focus on the Bronx may reinforce a lot of stereotypes about the borough. It might keep people away.

You seem like a pretty smart man, so I am puzzled by your comment , condoms are free , you can pick them up at any clinic,, hospital , HIV center, etc. Did you know you can even ask your doctor for a prescription and its covered by medicaid. HIV / AIDS does not only affect the poor and uneducated if that was the case Magic Johnson and many others would not have it, Get real? Get your head out of the sand! Go test yourself! Respect, you can get it from your husband , wife , partner whether you... (continue reading)
There was a Puerto Rican man who had worked all his life, had saved all of his money, and was a real "miser" when it came to his money. Just before he died, he said to his Puerto Rican wife..."When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me." And so he got his wife to promise him, with all of her heart, that when he died, she would put all of the money into the casket with him....
