recent blog postsHow To Do Resistance Band ExercisesPosted August 03rd, 2008 at 03:57am
Resistance bands are inexpensive and portable. Many new users are surprised at how tough a resistance band workout can be. For something that probably weighs less than a pair of your socks, a resistance band is surprisingly good at making muscles quiver. A bonus to using resistance bands is that your core muscles are engaged during the workout, unlike some other traditional strength-training exercises. The downside to using this type of equipment is that you can't measure your progress like with dumbbells and plates. The bands are usually color-coded and each color represents a different level of resistance, but isn't always so precise. Resistance can also vary with the length of the band. Say, for instance, you wrap the band around your hand one more time than usual for a particular exercise. Shortening the length of the band will make the exercise harder to do. Let's check it out.... Body sculpting for men: Complete shoulder workoutPosted August 03rd, 2008 at 01:32am
Few things show a man's pronounced physical fitness as well as a set of well- chiseled shoulders. A great set of shoulders can be developed with just a few exercises that include free weights, nautilus machines and using one's body weight. Before learning about the exercises, we should take a brief moment to review the three heads or parts of the Deltoid: the anterior, the lateral, and the posterior heads. The names indicate the location of the muscles, and it is easy to deduce the uses for each muscle. The anterior is related to use of the pectoral muscle, the lateral head is used for lifting the arm directly to the side, and the anterior head is used when using muscles in the back. Let's check it out....

Thicke is Fine and makes "Magic" so sexy!Posted July 18th, 2008 at 08:33pm
This song's been floating around the Internet for about a month or so. The song is "Magic," and it's the first single off Robin Thicke's third album, "Something Else", which will be in stores this September. Personally, I'm diggin' this track's flavor a lot. Not only is it real R&B, it also goes a long way toward proving that Robin's not a gimmick or a one-hit wonder: dude's a talented artist who's here to stay.
I hate them so much, but it helps. Push Ups build Muscle Mass And Boost Metabolism.Posted July 15th, 2008 at 03:45am
I have read that different workouts involving weights, cardiovascular machines, and calisthenics provide different results; I am following the below I read that the best way to build mass and boost metabolism is by doing pushups. Lots of pushups! I read that ths guy after less than three months training was able to complete a one-thousand pushup routine in exactly 80 minutes. He gained 15 lbs of solid muscle mass, lost a considerable amount of body fat and consistently ate 5000-6000 calories daily. Calisthenics, like pull-ups and pushups, are commonly avoided because they can be extremely painful. Because strength training exercises are typically anaerobic, with few exceptions, the body produces a high amount of lactic acid, thus causing a burning sensation in the muscles. Coupled with physical and mental exhaustion, an abundance of lactic acid can persuade even the hardest of athletes to give it a rest, but you gotta keep your mental strength. This week I begin; the routine consisting of no more than 100-200 pushups, spread out over an entire day. I've broken them down into even sets, of say 20 pushups per set. Whenever I feel confident in myself, I drop to the floor and pound out a quick set. If 20 pushups are too many when I begin, then I do more sets consisting of fewer repetitions per set. I'm not concerning myself with the amount of time it takes to complete the first few workouts, I just make sure I've drank a lot of water and eat a lot of high protein food throughout the day. The days following my first pushup workout, my chest, stomach, shoulders and legs were hella sore. I read that it will become apparent just how many muscle groups are worked when doing pushups. I am will then take 2-3 days rest.Wish me luck!
Effective Ways to Lose Your GutPosted June 20th, 2008 at 10:10pm
The average man's body houses 43.2 pounds of fat. And at any one moment, that number is either increasing or decreasing it's never stagnant. Spend more of each day burning fat than you do storing it, and over time, you'll bury your belly forever. Sound simple? It is. You see, there's no single secret formula for losing fat. In fact, find 100 successful losers and they'll give you 100 different ways to win the battle of the bulge. But we did them one better. On the following pages, you'll find some tips designed to help you lose your love handles, bust your gut, and define your abs. Simply incorporate three or four into your life every day, and you'll finish off your fat easier and faster than you ever imagined possible. Eat more protein. About 25%-30% of the calories in each gram of protein are burned in digestion, compared to only 6%-8% of the calories in carbs. Do the math: You save 41 calories every time you substitute 50 grams of protein for an equal amount of carbs. Read labels. Avoid foods with "high-fructose corn syrup" in the ingredients list. Since 1971, consumption of this sugar substitute which is used to sweeten soda, commercial baked goods, and even condiments has increased more than 350% in the U.S., paralleling the rise in obesity. Get off your ass. Do every exercise standing instead of sitting. "You'll expend up to 30% more calories," says Joe Stankowski, C.P.T. The solution for the bench press? Dips. Mix up your movements. When you lift, perform supersets in which you alternate between sets of lower-body and upper-body exercises. That way, your lower body rests while your upper body is working. "This allows you to work your muscles maximally with very little downtime between sets for a faster, more effective workout," says Craig Ballantyne, C.S.C.S. Break a record. Challenge yourself to run farther in the same amount of time even if it's just one-tenth of a mile every single workout. This ensures you're always burning more calories from one workout to the next. Smash your dinner plates. And buy smaller ones. That way, even if you fill your plate to capacity, you're ultimately eating less than what you would likely pile on your existing platters. Cut carbs. Yes, you've heard it a zillion times. The reason: It works. In just one of many recent studies, a Journal of Nutrition report found that men who reduced their carb intake to just 8% of their daily calories lost seven pounds of fat and gained two pounds of muscle in six weeks. Lift first, then run. By doing cardio after you've lifted when you're already tired the same speed or intensity will have a greater effect than had you done it beforehand, says McGarr. Change directions. Try this interval-training trick on the elliptical trainer: Ride for 30 seconds as fast as you can, then immediately reverse your direction and ride for 30 additional seconds just as fast in the opposite direction. Rest 60 seconds and repeat. The force of stopping your momentum, as well as going from a dead stop to full speed twice in the same interval, will give your fat-burning efforts a massive boost, says MF training adviser Alwyn Cosgrove, C.S.C.S. Fill up on high-fiber foods. Consider them "good carbs." Their bulk takes up space in your stomach, helping you feel full and eat less. The top fiber food: beans, which contain 8 grams per 1/2 cup. Research shows that guys who added 12 grams of fiber a day to their diet lost a quarter of an inch from their love handles, without otherwise modifying their diet. Don't skip meals. Not eating for long periods of time puts your body into a catabolic state, meaning it starts to break down muscle tissue fo energy and conserves fat. Try the VersaClimber. The more vertical you are when doing cardio, the more calories you burn. Don't be a couch potato. If you're a TV junkie, add up the number of hours you watch right now, and cut out all reruns even if there's an episode of Seinfeld on you've never seen. Spend the time you save on your feet: outdoors or in the gym. Hit the weights. If you're lazy, it's not as bad as you think just 10 minutes a day of lifting, three days a week, will help. Harvard research shows that 30 minutes of weight training per week has a greater reduction on waist size than almost any other variable. Pass on the potatoes. In any form mashed and baked, as well as French fries and potato chips. They raise levels of insulin in the blood, triggering your body to stop burning and start storing fat. (Sweet potatoes are acceptable; they have more nutrients and fiber.) Eat your biggest meal of the day after you lift. It takes calories to digest food. And researchers at the University of Nevada found that it takes 73% more calories to process that food after a weight-training session than if you hadn't worked out at all. |
