Message from Barack: The Next Vice President

Posted August 23rd, 2008 at 05:05pm

Friend --

I have some important news that I want to make official.

I've chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.

Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.

I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change.

Please let Joe know that you're glad he's part of our team. Share your personal welcome note and we'll make sure he gets it:

Thanks for your support,

Barack

P.S. -- Make sure to turn on your TV at 2:00 p.m. Central Time to join us or watch online at http://www.BarackObama.com.

Video: The Latino Vote

Posted August 05th, 2008 at 07:06pm

Friends --

My name is Temo Figueroa, and I'm the Latino Vote Director for the Obama campaign.

Hispanic voters are going to make history in this election.

I just recorded a short video about our plans to reach this important group, including an unprecedented initiative by the Democratic National Committee and the Obama campaign to bring as many Hispanic voters into the process as possible.

Watch this brief video about the Latino Vote and get involved today:

Hispanic voters have disproportionately felt the brunt of the failed Bush-McCain policies -- from a decline in median income for Hispanic households to a rise in unemployment. They are demanding change.

And they will play a crucial role in bringing the change we desperately need. Latinos comprise a large portion of the electorate in several key battleground states.

That's why this initiative -- which includes voter registration, Election Day turnout, trainings, online organizing, and Spanish-language advertising -- is so important.

And it would not be possible without the hard work and generosity of supporters like you.

Check out the video and share it with your friends and family.

Thank you so much for your continued support,

Temo

personal message

I was fortunate to be able to grow up seeing America from varied viewpoints. My childhood was spent in Hawaii and Indonesia. After college I worked as a community organizer on the South side of Chicago focusing on improving living conditions in poor neighborhoods.

I came to understand that to truly solve the problems facing our communities, it would take a change in our laws and our politics. I ran and served for seven years in the Illinois state Senate, where I fought for expanding children's health care, providing tax cuts for the working poor and enacting welfare reform. In 2004, I was elected to the U.S. Senate, where I have worked to pass laws securing dangerous weapons and making government more accountable. I have also opposed the Iraq war from the start, and believe that we need to bring our troops home so we can refocus on the wider struggle against terrorism.

Of all my life experiences, I am most proud of my wife Michelle and my daughters Malia and Sasha.

Hello,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Texas!

A little bit about me,
I am African American (enjoying the company of the Hispanic community here on MiGente.com) Born and raised in South Texas (Corpus Christi) the Hispanic community has always been a part of my make up - now reside in the DFW metro area. Also, I am a single parent who wishes to leave this world much better than I inherited.

I have watched as you have successfully captured the attention and the support of our nation. There are so many concerns that I have personally but will share three major ones.
Health Care, National Security and Social Security.

Please address these topics at your forums here in Texas.

I am elated to learn about your strategies for Texas, looks like you have a great plan aligned. Areas you certainly want to target are Harlingen, Brownsville, Victoria, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston, DFW and last but not least - Midland/Odessa Texas are experiencing a lot of growth.

My prayers go with you; it would be wonderful if I can help.
Much success to you!
