I am extremely proud to be Latina. First, I feel Latinos have a little bit of everything and you can't go wrong with that. With our rich and diverse background, most of us come from Native American, African and European descent. We come in all different colors, with hairs in different textures, and have features from all over. We represent the world in one beautiful and unique package. No other people can say that.

Second, I am very proud of our Latin culture, from our language to our food and music. Everyone wants to have a little Latin in their life whether it's eating at a Spanish restaurant, taking up Spanish classes or taking lessons in Latin dance. We add flavor to all lives we encounter.

Third, I think of all the struggles and challenges we face as Latinos and although I know we experience difficult times, I remain proud to be Latina. The contributions Latinos make sometimes go unnoticed, but we are making huge strides. I feel proud to see all these powerful and successful Latinos making a name for our people (and not in a stereotypical way). We are breaking barriers everyday and that is something to be most proud of. We are proving ourselves all the time to those who don't believe in us and don't want to see us make it.

As I think of Latinos and how we are the minority, I stop and think of how, as a whole, we are the majority. We help make this country prosper. Without Latinos this country would not be where it is today. It is our people that help make this country run. We have so much to be proud of. I love being Latina!!

I am proud to be latino, because I have not only observed, but also endured the difficulties of what it's like to be a minority, in a society filled with violence and corruption, where opportunity cannot and will not be given, but it must be taken. During these tough times, latinos of all races have been thrown obstacles in their way to keep them down, whether it be financial troubles, unemployment, drug and/or alocohol abuse, yet through all of these obstacles, we are strong and manage to beat these obstacles and clear the path to a successful future and life no matter what. When someone takes a step back, that's the chance for latinos to take a step forward, and that's why I am proud to be latino.

Why am I proud to be Latina? I am a latina woman born to Puerto Rican Parents, representing my culture in everyway, from the sound of the tambora, the guira and the congas. Los merengues tipicos, la salsa, la plena y bomba. In a world full of different cultures it is not very difficult to fit in.... living in Lawrence, MA enjoying the festivals in NY and MA. Raising my flag up high and proud. I teach my children about their heritage, they are Dominarican.... their father is Dominican and me, well i'm Puerto Rican as mentioned before. I support my daughter in every Latin Pageant she competes in, last year she walked away with the Princess Crown of Puerto Rican Movement here in Lawrence, MA. Being a Latino is a wonderful feeling.... as latinos we have many different cultural tendencies.... from our food, to our music and dance. We are in fact all one... united together by our hispanic ways and loyalty to one another. So why am I proud to be a Latina.... I'm proud because it's the sazon in my blood, the rythym in my feet, the congas in my heart and the coqui in my ears..... it's the ultimate orgullo de ser latina que me da la vida y que me ayuda a seguir mi cultura y enseñarle a mis hijos lo orgullosa que soy de ser latina.
