The swine flu's impact on a Mexican small business

Posted

This whole swine flu came out of nowhere. I talk to my relatives in Mexico and they say that the streets are empty, people are not allowed to gather and everyone's walking around with their mouths covered.

They also say that the news there are actually reporting that the virus came from Canada, but all I hear in the US is that it originated in Mexico. We've already started seeing the huge economic impact this is having on Mexico's economy and I just hate the way the media in the US is handling the whole deal. On the first day, their headline was "should the border be closed?" I mean, I am concerned for outrsafety, but they are being way too sensationalistic and are not thinking of the consequences this will have on people depending on buying products from and traveling to Mexico, not only for Mexicans, but many Americans depend on the Mexican economy as well.

This hits very close to home because I sell products from Mexico. What would you guys do if your income depended on anything having to do with Mexico (tourism, food, clothing, etc.)?

Childhood Memories

Posted

Thank you all for accepting my request! I recently quit my job to start my own business. The response has been great but the experience has been even greater! I came to the US from Mexico when I was 14 and could not be happier with my life in the US. I know I never would have been able to go to college or even start a business if my parents had stayed in Mexico, but I've always wondered what it would have been like growing up with my abuelitos, primos, vacas and all those wonderful things that I remember from my childhood. Although according to the news, Mexico has become one of the most dangerous places in Latin America, I still have the dream to go back one day and live there for a couple of years. I also think that when I have kids, I would like them to spend time in Mexico. My question is: would you guys go back to your/your parents' country? Thanks

What would be your ideal business?

hey guys, I never thought it'd be so hard to start a business... My dream has always been to do a product that reflects my heritage and the love for my land. I try to showcase that best of Latino culture and world icons on unique leather wallets, but I was wondering: What do you think is the best strategy for a Latino-themed business to make it big in the business world? If you could, what business would you start to showcase your Latino heritage and pride?
