Hemingway against embargo for democracy in Cuba (in Italian) Fidel Castro ed Ernest Hemingway Recchia, autore del recente saggio ?Hemingway for Cuba?, che ribalta senza tanti complimenti la versione ufficiale proponendo un'approfondita, anche se non proprio inedita, ricostruzione alternativa. L'Fbi avvicinò effettivamente Hemingway e gli fece pressioni per abbandonare Cuba dopo la rivoluzione castrista. Per questa ragione, al di là dei malanni fisici e della crisi di ispirazione che lo affliggevano, nel luglio del 1960 lo scrittore lasciò l?isola per far ritorno negli Stati Uniti.Ma Recchia non si ferma qui. Sfruttando qualche appiglio ma non senza forzature, pone lo scrittore al centro di una torbida rete di intrighi tesa tra Cuba e gli Stati Uniti, che coinvolge Castro, Kennedy, i servizi segreti e la mafia e inghiotte per vie diverse Hemingway, Marylin Monroe e lo stesso presidente americano. Uno scenario suggestivo, che attinge a piene mani alla ?teoria della cospirazione? ma non convince, specie a riguardo del legame politico del protagonista con Cuba.In proposito esistono, nettamente contrapposte, due scuole di pensiero. Secondo la prima teoria, sostenuta tra gli altri da Norberto Fuentes in ?Hemingway en Cuba?, lo scrittore era, se non vicino, tutt?altro che ostile a Castro. Una prova a sostegno di questa tesi sarebbe la propensione di Hemingway verso la vita avventurosa, la sua passione per le imprese temerarie e romantiche. La consacrazione, invece, arriverebbe da una foto che ritrae Hemingway e Castro a pesca sulla Pilar, la mitica barca del premio Nobel. Un uomo vecchio con la barba bianca e uno più giovane con la barba scura ridono insieme e mostrano orgogliosi una grossa preda: Hemingway sembra di fronte al suo ?alter ego? in divisa da guerrigliero.Altra visione di un Hemingway ?revolucionario in pectore?, però, la dipinge nel romanzo ?Adios Hemingway? Leonardo Padura, secondo cui, pur risiedendo a lungo a Cuba, il premio Nobel rimase sempre estraneo alle vicende politiche dell?isola. Non era ostile al regime di Batista, che, pur nell?estrema corruzione, consentiva a benestanti e ospiti illustri, come lo scrittore americano, un elevato tenore di vita. Il regime gli concesse perfino un?onorificenza, che lui non si premurò affatto di rifiutare. Con Batista, poi, Hemingway aveva stipulato un ?patto di non belligeranza?. Lo scrittore si offriva come testimonial di Cuba, per catalizzare l?attenzione del mondo culturale sull?isola; in cambio Batista garantiva alla sua dimora, la Finca Vigia, una specie di extraterritorialità. La villa comprata dalla terza moglie di Hemingway, Martha Gellhorn, in cui per tutta ricompensa lo scrittore si stabilì con la nuova consorte Mary Welsh, diventò una sorta di enclave, uno Stato nello Stato con una vita a sé e una ?costituzione? completamente autonoma. Tutto lascia pensare che lo scrittore americano volesse rinnovare il patto anche col regime di Castro. Del resto Hemingway non provava grande interesse per la vita sociale dell?isola. Per lui Cuba era una riserva di ispirazione, lo sfondo ideale per mettere in scena un?altra delle sue grandi passioni. Cuba stava alla pesca come l?Africa stava alla caccia e la Spagna, ovviamente, alla corrida. Le giornate dello scrittore trascorrevano tra interminabili battute di pesca a bordo della Pilar, alla sfrenata ricerca di piaceri mondani o a scrivere nell?isolamento della Finca Vigia. Erano un continuo tributo e una preparazione alla scrittura, linfa per il suo genio creativo.Per Cuba, invece, Hemingway è stato un cimelio vivente e poi, dopo la sua morte, un?enorme attrattiva turistica. Oggi può diventare addirittura qualcosa di più.Nel corso degli anni alla Finca Vigia, trasformata in museo dal governo di Castro, sono stati ritrovati migliaia di documenti inediti. Il testo originale dell?epilogo di ?Per chi suona la campana?, scritti sparsi, lettere, appunti, annotazioni. All?inizio del 2009, grazie alla collaborazione tra il museo cubano, il centro di Studi Sociali di Washington e la Biblioteca Kennedy di Boston, questi documenti sono stati catalogati, digitalizzati e messi a disposizione di studiosi e ammiratori dello scrittore.In piena era Bush, dunque, il mito di Hemingway ha eluso le maglie dell?embargo, aprendo una breccia che l?amministrazione di Obama, dopo aver proclamato un ?nuovo inizio? delle relazioni con Cuba, non perderà l?occasione di allargare.Ambasciatore di pace, ponte ideale per la riconciliazione di due popoli: è questo l?ultimo alloro, postumo, dell?inimitabile Papa. Altro che strappare ai pescecani una gigantesca, inutile lisca di pesce??Che sfacciata buonasorte!?, gli direbbe con un filo d?invidia la sua creatura più celebre, il vecchio sfortunato pescatore Santiago. ?Che fascino straordinario!?, aggiungiamo noi ad onor del vero. Se l?avesse saputo forse Hemingway ne avrebbe tirato fuori una storia. O forse ci avrebbe bevuto su un Daiquiri.

I Cubani di Miami sono tutti elettori repubblicani di Jepp Bush. La guerra fredda è finita da un pezzo e Cuba non è potenza nucleare. Ci sono motivi umanitari a favore dello scioglimento dell'embargo. penso anche alle sofferenze della popolazione di colore a cui Obama dovrebbe essere particolarmente sensibile. Sicuramente occorre una maggiore arrendevolezza da parte di Fidel Castro nel riconoscere gli errori del passato. Ma una grande democrazia come quella americana dovrebbe essere in grado di fare il primo passo.

Portando ovviamente acqua al mulino di Cuba l'opinionista invita Obama a levare l'embargo contro Cuba. Scopro ora che l'embargo (bloqueo) degli USA contro Cuba è regolato da una legge temporale che ogni anno scade e per rimanere in vigore deve essere firmata dal vigente presidente degli Stati Uniti d'America. La legge è conosciuta con la sigla TWTEA ovvero la Legge del Commercio col Nemico. Inventata nel 1917 è stata applicata a Cuba dal 1963 da John F. Kennedy ed attualmente Cuba è l'unico Paese beneficiario (sigh) di questa legge. Per altri paese "nemici" vengono applicate misure decise internazionalmente. Anche se sarebbe un atto forte, soprattutto dal punto di vista psicologico e politico, ma per arrivare alla vera fine dell'embargo i legislatori USA dovrebbero modificare o meglio cancellare le sucessive leggi contro Cuba soprattutto la legge Helms-Burton in vigore dal 1966. Ma sarebbe un primo passo significativo. Ahora que es Nobel de la Paz, Obama debería poner fin a guerra contra CubaEl presidente norteamericano, Barack Obama, debería poner término definitivamente a la guerra comercial, financiera y económica que mantiene Estados Unidos hacia Cuba desde hace ya 50 años, ahora que al actual jefe de la Casa Blanca le fue concedido el Premio Nobel de la Paz.El levantamiento del cruel y frustrado bloqueo impuesto a la isla caribeña por sucesivas administraciones de Washington sería una acción que se correspondería con el galardón que le ha sido concedido a Obama, hecho que dicho sea de paso ha generado controvertidas reacciones a nivel internacional.El mundo, casi unánimemente, ha reiterado al mandatario estadounidense que elimine de una vez por todas la guerra que aún se mantiene intacta contra Cuba, y que afecta a la mayor de las Antillas en todas las esferas de su economía, la cultura, la salud, la educación y el deporte.Si Obama es hoy Premio Nobel de la Paz, debería variar la política agresiva de Washington hacia los cubanos, como un gesto de distención hacia la nación latinoamericana.Precisamente, en las próximas semanas será debatido en la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas un nuevo Proyecto de Resolución, presentado por Cuba, que llama a las autoridades norteamericanas a desmantelar el injusto, ilegal y prolongado bloqueo.Similares proyectos han sido adoptados en ese mismo órgano internacional en 17 ocasiones anteriores, en igual número de años, tras el voto favorable de casi la totalidad de los estados miembros de Naciones Unidas.En octubre de 2008 el dictamen contra el bloqueo fue aprobado por 185 naciones a favor, tres en contra (Estados Unidos, Israel y Palau) y dos abstenciones, lo que significó un duro revés para la hasta ahora conducta agresiva de Washington hacia la mayor de las Antillas.Sin embargo, y a pesar de algunas publicitadas promesas de Obama tras su llegada a la Casa Blanca a principios de este año, la guerra económica, comercial y financiera contra Cuba no ha variado un ápice.Obama tiene hoy otra oportunidad histórica de demostrar si en la práctica es un hombre de paz.

Mr. President and the American people,I have always wanted to write a letter to the President just to say a few words. When I was 10, we had an assignment in English to write a letter to the President of the USA and tell him what we thought about the way the country was going. I wrote that letter and got a letter back that was really nice. So, I am going to do it again at 47 years old, with a wife and a daughter and trying to make ends meet. In today’s economy people are starving, they have to move back in with family, come back together as a family structure and support each other. This really isn’t a bad thing, I can tell you it has reminded me to be humble and look to the positive. My wife and I lost everything in hurricane IKE last year, and have moved in with my folks in Dallas. We went back “home” a short while ago to get what was left, and see just how bad the damage was. Though it was devastating, there wasn’t much left and what was there was mostly trash now. We held each other and gave thanks to our deity for keeping up safe and helping us with a place to live and family that would, and could help us. Jobs in this country are the pits, people are struggling to make ends meet, families are coming together and people in this country are actually stopping to help someone change a flat tire. People are starting to help people again, they are watching out for the other person, neighbors are helping each other, and they are meeting, talking and getting to know one another. I grew up in a time that people watched out for each other, they helped the community and walked together in bad times and in good. The world had become a place of hate, greed and spite. Now we are getting back to a formative of peace and oneness. I am proud to have voted for you, and I am proud you have given credit to Michelle. Many men today, never give credit to the Goddess they are married to, and are wrapped up in their own self to give that credit. People today have lost site of the Goddess and her power, blessings and nurturing of the world. They have lost sight of God and his ability to protect the world, as any Father would. You and Michelle, and your ability to support each other, work together as a team and walk as one, are reinforcing family. Family is not Man & Woman, Family is people, Family is the support of those you love and admire within the structure of the self. You and Michelle (if people would see) are bringing that structure back to Family. You know, it’s funny. When I was reading the other comments on this page, I was looking at what others wrote. I wanted to say one thing, something that would truly make people think. I wanted to use the right words, the right phrases, the right something that would make the deference. I guess I wanted to say “Thank you”, just Thank you to you and Michelle for showing a man that had lost faith in the Office of the President that, well, that there are still “people”, not really politicians, but people who are capable of taking off the coat, rolling up their sleeves, kicking off their shoes and running a country. In adversity, roadblocks, hard times, mountains, rivers and stumbling, only to find ourselves still, are doing fine. Keep faith in your deity, in your family, in what you hold dear to your heart. Thanks for giving me and so many other Puerto Rican and Hispanic/Latinos hope. I know this goes for White and Black USA citizens too but I can only speak of me as a Puerto Rican and American living now on the Island. Dear Mr.President,You have made my life very difficult, as I am surrounded by cynics, and people who do not seem to understand or either share in your visions and policies. I was raised in a multi-cultural/multi-racial family whom always taught me that; "Sharing was good". I received my Degree in Sociology + have worked in various capacities within agencies serving the developmentally disabled, children, families, + teens in need, as well as disenfranchised seniors in both The Bronx + Manhattan. Last week I got into a heated argument w/ a close relative about how you; (Mr.President)........"Do not know what you are doing, AND ARE NOTHING BUT A SOCIAL WORKER."!!! Gee, thanks DAD!!!!! I informed him as respectfully as possible of course that if he had ever; "Hit the ground running, rallied for funds, + got his hands dirty helping others he would know that COMMUNITY ACTIVISM is a definite pre-requisite for a U.S. President! BTW, he has somehow concluded in his head that his partial Spaniard Ancestry, as well as his partial Native American Ancestry are; "MYTHS". Can you say; "In Group Self-Hatred"? If I did not learn early on from my mother to speak- up/stand - up for myself I would have lost it long ago. Why don't you people stop drooling over Obama already. The man hasn't even been in office long enough for any of you to be happy, we don't know anything about this guy and he has alot of promises to fullfil. I do not trust any presidents before getting to know them and I want all of you to read this message and pay attention to what Obama does in office. We need to make sure he is accountable for everything he does. He should not get a pass, no! This is a very important and dangerous time to be in America, and if Obama does not do the job we should not hesitate to take a stand and fight for our freedoms. I have grown tired of these rich men thinking they know what's best for us. If we don't fight for freedom, who will?
