After reading a few comments posted, I concur with the toughts of Batica-3/28/09, Brownsugar-3/27/09, Bashful47-3/27/09. I am Puertoriqueno and proud of my heritage. In 1983 I won a discrimination law suit in Chicago, Il. I received a letter from a Company congradulaton me for being picked for employment. When I reported to HR dept prior to start date to fill out the employment documents, I indicated they needed to make a correction. They had indicated I was BLACK, when I indicated I was Hispanic/Latino all of a sudden there was a mistake and the position was not available. Belive it or not employment was to be with The NAACP. Throw the race card away

I love white latina's, brown latina's, and black latina's! They all have their own unique beauty, and of course the latin passion and charm.

Hi My name is Claudia...........My answer to the question is No i don't care if they ask what race I am because I am 100 Percent proud to be HISPANIC/LATINA. I was born here and both of my parents are Mexican. So i'm a chicana and they don't ask me that. They should know how many latin people are here so that way they know we out number them. They'll consider us more. And Like i said I'm am proud of my Latin Roots and Proud as hell that we have The First African American President of The United States of America. I Love Mexico But i Love America even more.

i agree with the rest of the people that have left a comment. the fact that i am mexican-american and considerd hispanic it should not matter what i am. no matter what color or race we are, in the end we are all humans and we should all be treated the same no mater what. i hate filling out papers that ask what race i am. i never answer. that just makes me think that it all comes down to what color you are so that u can be treated as u are.i just think that it makes no sence, and make me sad that we still care about your ethnic backround when we really shouldn't!!!

Me being of mixed race is being an American,in this country there is no pure race except the one known as human.I do not feel I should have to define myself on race or gender at all.Peopla always say what are you I say black and they are like No way.Because my hair and facail features yet it does not matter.I am Indian,Syrian and African American and yet 100% woman. So it is how a person is as an indiviual and their acts and deeds that they should be judged upon not their race.I am proud to be born in a time that we are no lonnger in the status quo of minorities are inferior.Look at our president he is of mixed race and represents us all.He is strong educated also God fearing and he cares about all the people and our issues. So no I do not think that we should be asked of our race.It does not make us less then anyone to know but why is it so important in this country to ask?

i absolutely agree with the first brother's post. I'm a black latina so in defining who I am - Yes, I'm latina but my race is black. My mother is an Afro-Cuban woman and my father is an Afro-American. Does it get any blacker so to speak? lol It is important to know our differences as there are many that define latino as a race when it is clearly not. Latinos are a group of different reces (yes I said it)- with a common link- the Spanish Language. Coming from an African perspective, Afro-Latinos are not that far removed from African- Americas, Afro-West Indians and etc....we have to dig deeper for that knowledge though. Nowadays, our race is a mess so I'd be speaking to the past and not the present. Why try to live in a color blind world? It's our differences, as well as our similarities ,that we need to address.

The fact-of-the-matter is that we have allowed the government to "legally" segregate" the spanish speaking population just because we speak spanish. Only in America are black and white latinos or hispanics considered one race. If you look at any type of paperwork that asks your race or ethnic orgin, spanish speaking people are the only ones that are all grouped together. We need to take the race card and destroy it and quit saying, we're not white or we're not black. The fact is, that we are white, we are black we are brown, we are yellow and we are red. those are the only real colors of humans in the generic sense. we should be valued by our abilities and experience and not what we look like or sound like. How would Irish people feel if they were no longer considered white because they speak irish?

I certainly do mind being of mixed ethnicities/races. I am part Native American. Where is that on some forms? There is also no distinction on such forms as far as being Latin European or Latin American, or both. And what about Asians, Arabs etc.? What about people who have bee adopted + do not even know. Talk about awkward! Now I purposely decline to answer but most often check off EVERYTHING THAT APPLIES. It some statistician/worker becomes confused they need to change their forms. Good question. Cuidate.

I think the point was missed or maybe I'm misunderstanding the poll question. I don't think I did, but here goes! I have done some reading on white/black Latinos or Hispanics. I understand the meaning of "Afro-Latino" because that goes beyond a racial thing. And I somewhat understand the true meaning behind there being a white/black Hispanic culture. What I don't understand is why there has to be a race category for this. Aren't we all Latinos regardless? My point of view is that many Latinos are a blend or mixture of different heritages. I thought that that's what made Latinos so unique is that our looks and colors ranged from milky white to rich mahogany. Extremely tight, curly hair to super fine hair. But instead we have to classify one as a white Hispanic and a Black Hispanic... I feel the term has been misconstrued and Latinos who are just fair skin, end up considering themselves as white Hispanics and vica versa. So there's my two cents.

I watched an interview of Morgan Freeman and the reporter kept elluding to race. After several attempts Mr. Morgan became agitated and told the reporter firmly, " you know how you over come the race factor?, you stop talking about"!!! Classy guy. and quite correct if 'ya think about it. Randy

Why should it matter what "race" the President of the United States is! It's a ashame that even in this day and that we still have people in this country that get so caught up on the "race" of an individual. Why can't we learn to look past skin color or ethnicty and look instead at what the person has to provide in the way of knowledge, their education, potential and desire, and MAYBE plain old fashion morals? When (if ever!) will people and generations in this country learn to look past skin color and "race" when it comes not only to selecting a President but also when it comes to employment opportunity, where we live, who we associate with, who we date, marry, and who we have initimate relationships with. There are a lot of talent people in this country who have potential to be GREAT LEADERS, lovers, etc. but who are held back or denied a fair opportunity all because they are NOT Cauasian, have straight blond hair, and blue eyes!!!! STOP IT AMERICA PLEASE!!!!!!
